Chris Matthews Thinks Obama’s Off the Mark on Pot: ‘People Have Addictive Personalities’
They said it couldn’t be done, but lo and behold Chris Matthews actually disagrees with President Obama on something. In a recent interview the president mellowed out on marijuana, saying that he doesn’t have a problem with states legalizing pot and talking about the racial disparity in arrests for drug use. Even with all that in mind, Matthews, who acknowledged he’s “famous” for how much he agrees with the president, vehemently disagreed with him on this one issue, explaining, “I think people have addictive personalities and some people react to freedom differently than others and we’d better be ready for it.”
Matthews spoke on Monday night with Christopher Kennedy Lawford and Patrick Kennedy, both of whom agreed with his position. Lawford argued that with alcohol and tobacco already legal, “we don’t need another legal drug” that poses potential danger to young people. Kennedy called marijuana “insidious” for its harmful effects on public health and warned this will be a “gateway” for anyone predisposed to addiction.
Kennedy said that if Obama’s serious in saying alcohol is worse than pot, he might want to think about going after both industries, including the tobacco industry, from marketing to young people.
