CNN Panel ERUPTS Into Fiery Debate Over Kamala Harris Avoiding Reporters

A CNN discussion about Vice President Kamala Harris and her limited media availability resulted in fireworks on Thursday night when Bakari Sellers and SE Cupp went head-to-head on the subject.

Sellers and Tricia McLaughlin, the former communications director for Vivek Ramaswamy, also sparred briefly during the discussion.

Cupp argued that Harris is still in the “honeymoon period” of her campaign and now that she has tapped Democratic Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate, voters are going to want to hear from them both on the issues.

“She’s going to take questions,” Cupp said. “We’re going to make sure of that.”

Sellers – who had positioned the discussion as one of former President Donald Trump versus Harris – argued that in his estimation, very few voters are concerned with Harris’s lack of media availability during the third week of her campaign.

Cupp agreed that Trump’s Thursday press conference was a colossal “waste of time” but said it did not release Harris from a responsibility to voters to also address them.

Sellers then said the argument was moot and doubled down on his claim that the only people concerned about hearing from Harris are people in Washington and in the media in a heated back and forth.

“This is so in the Beltway,” Sellers said.

Cupp fired back, “No, it really isn’t! I speak to swing state voters every day!”

CNN anchor Audie Cornish brought some levity to the discussion but moments later, Cupp and Sellers again went at it.

“Bakari, I adore you, you know that, but you will lose and I’ve — you’re not the first person to make this argument that she doesn’t need to do this,” Cupp said. “It’s very inside the Beltway for us. You lose credibility when you do that! Because if it were someone else, you would be demanding that they sit down for questions and you know what? It’ll make her a better candidate!

After some crosstalk, McLaughlin said of Harris, “She should answer these questions.”

Sellers replied, “She will!”

McLaughlin concluded, “Let’s move on. This is the least substantive race, probably in American modern history.”
