CNN’s Kaitlan Collins and Maggie Haberman Roast Trump for Getting Busted Lying by Fox News
CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins and New York Times White House correspondent Maggie Haberman roasted President Donald Trump on Tuesday for getting busted lying about his encounter with Maryland Governor Wes Moore (D) by Fox News.
Over the course of two days and several photo ops, Trump told a fake story about being called “the greatest president of my lifetime” by Moore, sticking with the story at his marathon Cabinet meeting even after a Fox News host showed the claim was false by going to the videotape.
The tape even shows Trump inviting Moore to join him, and Moore replying “Nah, I’m good.” From Fox Nation’s Art of the Surge:
On Tuesday night’s edition of CNN’s The Source with Kaitlan Collins, Collins called it “remarkable” that Fox News busted Trump with actual tape of the encounter — well, most of it — and Haberman dryly noted Trump “says things that are not true quite often. I think we all know this.”
But Haberman added that while Trump often spins such stories, it’s “rare that the entire thing would be on tape”:
MAGGIE HABERMAN: There’s a difference between saying, Crime is bad, and we don’t want crime, and we’re going to try to try to take care of it, and I want — and then I want troops to be in my city. That’s just a leap. That is very different.
KAITLAN COLLINS: Well, and that’s also some pretty remarkable, with the Governor there, just — how Trump has described their interactions, and then actually seeing it, because Fox was doing a documentary, and has the conversation on tape.
HABERMAN: Yes.
COLLINS: And as Governor Moore was saying there, that’s the only time that they had spoken after the election.
HABERMAN: He says things that are not true quite often. I think we all know this. We got to see many examples of it, over the course of three hours, during the Cabinet meeting earlier today.
But he often says this about people who are oppositional to him, in any way, which is that they did something, or they asked something, or they praised him, or whatever. So, it’s not really a surprise. It is rare that the entire thing would be on tape, which is what Governor Moore said.
