CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin Says Migrants Rushing Border Shows ‘The Wall Wouldn’t Make Any Difference’
CNN chief legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin said the incident at the border yesterday, during which migrants in Tijuana, Mexico ran toward the U.S. border and were met with tear gas by border patrol, shows President Donald Trump’s proposed wall “wouldn’t make any difference.”
“His base is going to support him no matter what. His base wasn’t good enough to get him control of the United States House of Representatives,” Toobin said on CNN this morning while discussing Trump’s threats to shut down the government over funding for the wall. “The idea that his base is going to control the outcome here I think is — is — is not really accurate.”
“The wall is unpopular. I mean, yes, his base likes the wall, but other than that, shutting down the government over this wall, I don’t see why that is something Democrats should fear, because most people don’t want the wall,” he added. “And as this incident illustrates, the wall wouldn’t make any difference.”
Republicans, on the other hand, have used Sunday’s border incident as proof that America does need a wall on it’s southern border.
In a heated tweet this morning, the president continued warning his political opponents that lack of wall funding could result in the border closing “permanently.”
Mexico should move the flag waving Migrants, many of whom are stone cold criminals, back to their countries. Do it by plane, do it by bus, do it anyway you want, but they are NOT coming into the U.S.A. We will close the Border permanently if need be. Congress, fund the WALL!
