Colbert Bids Farewell to Iowa Caucus Dropouts With Hunger Games Salute
Seeing as how four presidential candidates dropped out following their less-than-stellar performances at the Iowa Caucus, there was no way that Stephen Colbert could pass up a chance to bid them farewell with the return of his Hungry for Power Games segment.
While it appears the show was taped before the announcement that Rick Santorum was dropping out, Colbert once again donned the wig of Ceaser Flickermann from the Hunger Games franchise to send off Mike Huckabee, Martin O’Malley and Rand Paul after the “bloodbath in Iowa’s cornucopia.” Colbert set his sights on Paul first, warning him to keep the torch of liberty he’s still carrying away from his hair, and to take solace in “living up to his father’s legacy of also not being president.”
O’Malley was next on the chopping block, with Colbert noting how he struggled to stand out on the Democratic side and how he will probably now go “play sleeveless guitar in a Viagra commercial.” As for Huckabee, Colbert took several jabs at his witty concession speech and his campaign’s tendency of only having standout moments when defending people like Kim Davis.
Colbert also offered a surprise farewell to Jim Gilmore, because even though he still hasn’t technically dropped out yet, it is highly unlikely he will be president after securing only 12 votes at the caucus.
