Connecticut Governor On CNN: ‘We Are A Particularly Violent Country’
Appearing on Sunday’s State of the Union, Connecticut Governor Dan Malloy told CNN anchor Candy Crowley , “We are unfortunately a violent society.” Reflecting on the amount of gun crime in the United States, Malloy said, “This is a violent world. We are a particularly violent country within that world.”
He also expressed his belief that, “If someone wants to do an act like this, they are going to find a way to do it.”
Speaking of the recent shootings in his state, Governor Malloy told Crowley that shooter Adam Lanza was “clearly” troubled and had to have been “deranged” to carry out this kind of crime. Crowley asked about specific details of the case, including whether there was any evidence that Lanza was mentally disabled. Malloy responded that the acts he committed were evidence of that fact.
Malloy revealed that he was the official with the responsibility of informing the parents of their children’s death. He told Crowley, “you can never be prepared for that,” and “it’s a tough assignment.”
