Cruz Slams Media for Turning Him into ‘Freddy Krueger’

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) played t-ball with “the media” on his inaugural appearance on Morning Joe Tuesday morning, bashing the political press corps for focusing on a moment in New Hampshire in which he scared a little girl rather than on the substance of his trip.

“This is blown up in the media,” Cruz said, referring to an incident on Sunday in which his comment that the world was “on fire” thanks to Obama’s foreign policy freaked out a three-year-old in his audience.

“Every reporter has written about it,” he said. “It’s gotten worse and worse. It was first ‘Girl Startled.’ Then it became ‘Girl Terrified.’ By the end of it I’m Freddy Krueger torturing this girl in her nightmare.”

The little girl’s mother, a Cruz supporter, told a radio station later that her daughter was fine.

Cruz said that the first story about his trip was from CNN, which buried information about his larger-than-expected turnout beneath more frivolous fare. “You might think in the world of journalism that used to be called news,” Cruz said. “That’s the 20th paragraph. What was CNN’s headline? ‘Cruz Startles Little Girl and Snubs a Goat.'”
