Democrat Advisor Leaves Fox Anchor and Guest In Disbelief with Trump Inflation Claims: ‘That’s Not the Case!’
Democrat advisor Mike Nellis left Fox News anchor Sandra Smith in disbelief as he claimed inflation is up under President Donald Trump.
Nellis joined Smith along with Matt Gorman, a former advisor on on Sen. Tim Scott’s (R-SC) presidential campaign, on Friday’s The Faulkner Focus where he argued Democrats should get back to basics and addressing issues like inflation. Nellis was once an advisor to former Vice President Kamala Harris.
“Republicans are in control of Congress. They’re currently in recess rather than doing anything about inflation. Donald Trump was in front of the White House today claiming that he’s crushed inflation, which is objectively false. If you were celebrating over the Fourth of July right now you had record beef prices, record alcohol prices,” Nellis claimed.
The USDA did announce that beef prices have surged by 9% since the beginning of the year, with demand outpacing supply.
“Do you know what the inflation rate is?” Smith asked Nellis.
“Yeah, it’s about 3 or 4%,” Nellis answered.
“No, it’s below three and it’s been a long time since it’s gotten there,” Smith said.
The inflation rate sits at around 2.7%, which is under the nearly 3% it was the year prior.
“Donald Trump promised to make grocery prices go down on day one, promised to makes housing prices go down. On day one we’re six months in and everything’s more expensive,” Nellis argued as Gorman reacted with visible shock.
“Prices are down,” Smith shot back. “They could go down more, I’ll give you that.”
“Inflation’s still going up and it’s rising, according to the latest stats,” Nellis said.
The inflation rate did rise from last month, but remains well below where it was at the same point last year. In January, it was sitting at 3%.
Nellis’s claims surprised both Gorman and Smith, each speechless for a moment as Smith threw her hands up like her head was exploding.
“That’s not the case. Inflation has come down,” Smith responded eventually. “Inflation, by nature, is growth in prices, but the growth is slow.”
Nellis continued accusing the administration of gaslighting the American people, admitting Democrats painted a rosier picture than reality when former President Joe Biden was in office.
“Remember they had four years. Okay, this Donald Trump has been president since the dawn of time — They had four ears! They called it transitory,” Gorman argued, pushing back against Nellis. “They didn’t give a darn about it. They totally denied reality for four years.
