Democratic Sen. Dryly Responds to Putin: Obviously He ‘Would Always Tell the Truth’
As questions continue to swirl about meetings between various members of President Donald Trump‘s administration and various Russian officials, Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday essentially said Nothing to see here.
“What else is the ambassador supposed to do?” Putin said at a forum in St. Petersburg. “He’s paid for holding meetings, discussing current affairs.”
One prominent Senator is totally buying that.
Appearing on The Lead Friday, Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) gave a repsonse to a Jake Tapper question about Putin’s statement that was absolutely dripping with sarcasm.
“Of course, we know that Vladimir Putin would always tell the truth,” Leahy said, dryly. “And he would never want to do anything that might hurt the interest of the United States.”
If Leahy’s opinion wasn’t obvious by that point, he made it crystal clear with his closing comments to Tapper.
“I’m used to reading fairy tales to my grandchildren,” Leahy said. “I think maybe Mr. Putin has grandchildren. That’s a fairy tale, and he knows it.”
