DNC’s David Hogg Scolds Dems Incensed By His Plan To Target Party Incumbents: ‘Look at the Last Results of the Previous Election’

Democratic National Committee (DNC) Vice Chair David Hogg scolded Democrats losing it over his plan to spend millions of dollars challenging incumbent Democrats.

Hogg, a Parkland shooting survivor and gun control activist who took on his party position in February, announced he would be spending $20 million through the group Leaders We Deserve to primary Democrats in favor of younger, more diverse voices. Leaders We Deserve, of which Hogg is the president, is a “grassroots organization dedicated to electing young progressives to Congress and State Legislatures across the country to help defeat the far-right agenda and advance a progressive vision for the future.”

Hogg’s plan has incensed some Democrats, including longtime strategist James Carville. The once-advisor to former President Bill Clinton called Hogg a “contemptible little twerp” this week and suggested the DNC sue him.

In a Thursday interview with CBS News, Hogg got the chance to respond to his critics. The young activist accused “purported experts” of having no plan to address their party’s low approval rating among voters.

America Decides anchor Major Garrett did not note Carville’s specific criticism of Hogg among the instances of Democrats torching Hogg’s plan.

Garrett told Hogg:

Matt Bennett from the Clinton-Gore era: “this is insane behavior.” John Anzalone, pollster most recently for President Biden: “$20 million should be spent on swing state legislative races, meaning state legislative races and down ballot, not on this.” Steve Schale, a Florida Democratic strategist, saying the DNC’s vice chair should be focused on this kind of engagement, meaning engaging in places in battleground states where Democrats have lost ground, not over which Dem in a plus-20 seat should be primaried and knocked out.

Hogg argued the longtime “experts” coming after him are the exact people who lost in 2024. He called it a “strategic disagreement.”

“Look at the last results of the previous election. Those are the purported experts that brought us here,” he said.

Hogg said his $20 million effort will be aimed at “frontline seats” where young people are running for office.

“Currently, if we had the same number of 25- to 30-year-olds in Congress as we do proportionally to the population, we would have over 40 people under the age of 30 in Congress, and I don’t know if you’ve looked at Congress recently, we have one that is under the age of 30. That is not good for the future of the Democratic Party,” he said.

Experts attacking his plan, Hogg argued, have no plan of their own to push the party forward.

“What I worry about is right now, where is the plan from those purported experts that are criticizing this to actually change our party and address the 27 percent approval rating that we have, because they do not have one,” he said.
