‘Don’t Be Condescending!’ Chris Matthews Gets Testy with Jorge Ramos over Iraq
On Bill Maher‘s Overtime segment last night, Chris Matthews got pretty testy with Jorge Ramos for saying the media failed to do its job in the run-up to the Iraq war.
After Maher brought up the issue of whether the U.S. should apologize for that war, Ramos said that the media didn’t do it’s job and “didn’t challenge” the Bush administration. Matthews shot back, “That’s not true.”
He insisted lots of people in the media, himself and Maher included, were plenty critical of the Bush administration. When Ramos continued, Matthews snapped and said, “Don’t be condescending!”
They kept arguing back and forth before Maher jumped in to tell Ramos isn’t unfair to lump everyone in together like that, though the examples he cited were activists, protesters, and members of Congress––not so much members of the press.
