Elise Stefanik Ruthlessly Booed, Picketed During Event: ‘You’re a Nazi!’
Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) was booed and picketed during an event honoring a late public servant in her state on Monday, with protesters calling her “a Nazi” and “a bully.”
As the congresswoman and short-lived Trump nominee was introduced to the stage, the audience erupted into boos and shouts of, “Shame!”
“You’re a Nazi!” screamed one protester, while another shouted, “Go home!”
Protesters could also be seen holding signs which read, “ELISE JUST GO AWAY” and “STEFANIK IS A BULLY.”
Unable to deliver her speech over the noise, Stefanik walked away from the podium.
According to NBC-5’s Sophia Falbo, “Protesters made up more than half of the crowd, many of them holding signs and booing Congresswoman Stefanik.”
“There was a call for Stefanik to hold a town hall echoing through the crowd, even when local speakers took their turns at the podium,” Falbo continued, noting that “activist groups, including one called Show Up, organized the demonstration.”
Speaking to reporters after the event, Stefanik said, “Today’s event was about honoring John Zurlo. It is a disgusting disgrace that this is what the far-left does rather than understanding that his family has been through a tremendous amount. It was about honoring his legacy.”
Stefanik also condemned the protesters on social media, writing, “Today #NY21 witnessed shameful conduct by radical Far Left Democrat agitators who disgracefully attempted to drown out and silence a non-political event in Plattsburgh to honor the lifelong service of John Zurlo in Clinton County as the building was named in his honor.”
She concluded, “I was proud to deliver my remarks and privately give them to one of John’s sons along with the Congressional Record presented to the Zurlo family previously.”
