Evan McMullin: Corker Doing the Right Thing Now, But He ‘Participated in Normalizing’ Trump
Senator Bob Corker may no longer care about burning bridges with the White House, but as Evan McMullin pointed out on MSNBC tonight, he wasn’t exactly in that anti-Trump camp for long. (He supported Trump during the campaign.)
Chris Hayes found this comment from one Republican congressman to be particularly telling, saying it comes across as a “giant self-own”:
Mark Meadows responds to Corker intvu:
Comments are not appropriate, not representative
"It's easy to be bold when you're not coming back."— Erica Werner (@ericawerner) October 9, 2017
McMullin, who you may remember ran for President last year, noted that it’s not as if Corker should be that surprised:
“The thing is that Donald Trump sort of hinted and threatened nuclear activity during the campaign. We’ve known that this was the reality of Donald Trump for a long time. Corker participated in normalizing that in attacking people like me and others who wouldn’t fall in line. I’m glad he’s doing what he’s doing now. He’s doing the right thing, he’s speaking truth, I support and embrace that. But the reality is we need leaders that have more courage that are willing to do the right thing for the country even when it’s hard.”
