Fox & Friends Blames Nancy Pelosi for Kevin McCarthy Ouster: ‘That’s What You Get for Trusting Democrats’
The moral of the story from Kevin McCarthy’s ouster as House speaker? According to Fox & Friends, it’s that you can’t trust Democrats to save him from the rebellion within his Republican caucus.
On Wednesday, the Fox News morning show was all over the news surrounding the chaotic end of McCarthy’s speakership after Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and seven other GOPers revolted by siding with Democrats against him. Fox & Friends eventually focused on McCarthy’s remarks after the removal vote, where he blamed his predecessor, Nancy Pelosi, for his situation because of the rules allowing a single member of Congress to call for a no-confidence vote against the speaker.
CBS previously noted that “Under Pelosi, a motion to vacate could be offered on the House floor only if a majority of either party agreed to it. Before that rule change, a single member could move for a vote to unseat the speaker.” McCarthy was originally against the provision allowing a motion to vacate by a single member, but he agreed to it when Gaetz and others stood in his way of becoming the speaker.
While McCarthy claimed he had Pelosi’s pledged support, the fact remains that they loathed each other, plus Steve Doocy noted that Pelosi is in California right now for Dianne Feinstein’s funeral.
“So the Democrats, under the leadership of Hakeem Jeffries, wrestled with whether or not to support and save the speakership of Kevin McCarthy,” Doocy said. “Ultimately, they decided not to.”
“That’s that’s what you get for trusting Democrats,” Ainsley Earhardt chimed in. “They tell you one thing and then they pull back and do something else.”
Lawrence Jones agreed, saying, “Instead of winning over your caucus, instead of getting to 12 appropriations bills, instead of getting term limits, which you promised, you trusted the Democrats to save your tail. You trusted the Democrats to save you with the C.R. Bill. I mean, it’s no wonder why he’s not speaker.”
