Fox Host Bluntly Asks State Dept. Spokesperson About Trump’s Putin Revelation: ‘Why Is He Broadcasting Russia’s Next Move?’
President Donald Trump made a curious disclosure on Wednesday, saying that he spoke with Vladimir Putin, who told him Russia “will have to respond to the recent attacks on airfields.”
Over the weekend, Ukraine carried out a shocking drone attack that damaged or destroyed at least 40 grounded Russian warplanes. The strikes occurred amid Trump’s ostensible efforts to broker an end to the war in Ukraine, which Russia invaded in February 2022.
“It was a good conversation, but not a conversation that will lead to immediate Peace,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “President Putin did say, and very strongly, that he will have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields.”
State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce appeared on Wednesday’s edition of The Story on Fox News, where guest host Gillian Turner read Trump’s statement and asked Bruce, a former Fox News contributor, about it.
“In response to the post on Truth Social from the president, why is he broadcasting Russia’s next move?” she asked.
“The president has always been transparent,” Bruce responded. “He feels that the governance of this country, of course, belongs to every American. That is part, of course, of his remarkable success, as you know, what President Trump is thinking, you know why he does what he does. This is an existential matter. It is something that has been very public.”
Bruce went on to say that she was not on the call, and that it sounds as though the president is not optimistic.
“I have to say that it is perhaps the least optimistic I’ve heard him regarding the nature of what was possible in a phone call and the peace or ceasefire with Ukraine,” Bruce continued. “But this is part of, obviously, negotiations. It is part of the diplomatic effort and the nature of conversations between people who can make the difference.”
