Fox News’ Brit Hume Declares Party of Reagan Dead After Trump’s Comeback: ‘After Jan. 6, I Said This Guy Is Done’

Fox News’ Brit Hume marveled at Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s improbable political comeback and declared that the GOP is no longer the party of Ronald Reagan in a stunning pronouncement on Monday morning.

Hume made his argument after anchor Dana Perino expressed her interest in “seeing how the political realignment that we’re living through plays out tomorrow night,” pointing toward Republicans’ gains with union voters and the ever-increasing gender gap as examples.

“This realignment is real,” agreed Hume. “I mean, the Republican Party we knew, the Reagan Republican Party is gone. And even if Trump falters, fails, and doesn’t win and ends his political career, the changes that have been wrought while he’s been a prominent figure in the party, I think are enduring. And we’re going to have we have a new Republican Party for sure.”

“If he were to win, it would be one of the more dynamic political stories in American history,” observed Bill Hemmer.

“I remember so vividly,  and I was a little embarrassed about this myself because I remember after January 6, I said, ‘This guy is done, he’s radioactive. Now the Republican Party is going to reject him Now there’s this horrible mess that was made there,'” replied Hume. “And the whole fight to try to overturn the election was a terrible mistake, I thought, and I thought would be the end of it. Boy, was I wrong.”
