Fox’s Emily Compagno Blasts ‘Appalling’ Decision to Keep Witness List from Trump Team: ‘Doesn’t the Gag Order Work?’

Fox News host Emily Compagno blasted Judge Juan Merchan for allowing the prosecution in former President Donald Trump’s hush money trial to withhold the witness list from Trump’s defense team on Outnumbered Friday, calling it “appalling.”

Merchan said on Friday that he would allow the prosecution to do so because he doesn’t trust Trump not to attack those who might testify at trial.

Compagno declared on Outnumbered that she thought it “frankly absolutely unacceptable that the judge won’t let- or will approve the prosecution withholding the witness names from the Trump team.”

“Their explanation was, ‘Well, we don’t want him to attack them on social media.’ Doesn’t the gag order work? Isn’t there enough faith in the court system? Shouldn’t that be the barrier in place?” she asked rhetorically. “Why are we having to listen to a prosecutor’s words over and over again that seem to weigh so much more heavily rather than a defendant’s when you know quite well, Kayleigh [McEnany], in the system, it actually always favors the defendant.”

“That’s the whole point here. We always favor and protect the defendant,” concluded Compagno. “Clearly not here. I have a lot of questions, and I’ll just close by saying I find it additionally intriguing that it took six years for these charges to be brought, and a jury’s impaneled in two days. There’s a lot of questions that I have.”

The gag order referred to by Compagno forbids Trump from publicly commenting on witnesses, jurors, court staff, prosecutors’ staff, or their families. Trump has strenuously objected to and repeatedly violated it, raising the possibility that he may be held in contempt and even imprisoned for continuing to target witnesses, including Stormy Daniels, Michael Cohen, and Mark Pomerantz.

“Has disgraced attorney and felon Michael Cohen been prosecuted for LYING? Only TRUMP people get prosecuted by this Judge and these thugs!” wrote Trump in a post on Truth Social earlier this month. He has also referred to both Cohen and Daniels as “sleaze bags.”
