Fox’s The Five Gets Briefly Introspective: Obama ‘Can’t Win with Us’
Viewers of The Five on Fox News should not be alarmed in the event any experienced a sudden bout of veritgo on Tuesday. At the top of the program there was an unexpected moment of self-awareness and honesty that normally goes unseen on cable news.
President Barack Obama has been criticized of late, by both Republicans and Democrats, for continuing to fundraise and keep on the schedule an upcoming “surprise” appearance on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live while chaos seemingly unfolds overseas.
The White House finally canceled that appearance Tuesday.
The news was greeted with firm skepticism on The Five. “Do you think it’s a bit of an issue that we’re talking about the fact that he’s not doing Jimmy Kimmel instead of all these international crises?” asked co-host Andrea Tantaros in earnest.
That’s when it happened.
“Let’s be honest here,” began fellow co-host Greg Gutfeld. “If he had done Jimmy Kimmel we would have made fun of him. And now he’s not doing Jimmy Kimmel and we’re still making fun of him. So, he can’t win with us.”
The lucidity meter must have reached capacity at that point, because the show’s conservative panelists went back to targeting the president’s decision.
“The president’s checked out,” Eric Bolling chimed in. “He’s a lame duck who’s completely lame.” Obama “doesn’t want to lead,” he added.
Tantaros wrapped it up and put a little bow on it, calling the cancellation “a little passive aggressive” since Obama didn’t also cancel his scheduled fundraising events.
