Fox’s Will Cain Delivers Wild Spin on Leaked War Plans: ‘I Think You’ll Come Away Proud’

Fox News’s Will Cain offered quite the take on a stunning report from Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic, who on Monday disclosed the Trump administration accidentally shared forthcoming military strikes with him.

Goldberg, the publication’s editor-in-chief, explained that a “Michael Waltz” had sent him a request to connect. The reporter said he was skeptical that the request was actually from National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, given that President Donald Trump has repeatedly criticized The Atlantic. But two days after the request to connect, Goldberg was added to a group chat named “Houthi PC small group,” with “PC” standing for “principals committee.” Among those in the group were Waltz, Vice President JD Vance, and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.

“I will not quote from this update, or from certain other subsequent texts,” Goldberg wrote of the discussion on whether to bomb the Houthis in Yemen. “What I will say, in order to illustrate the shocking recklessness of this Signal conversation, is that the Hegseth post contained operational details of forthcoming strikes on Yemen, including information about targets, weapons the U.S. would be deploying, and attack sequencing.”

A spokesperson for the National Security Council told Goldberg, “This appears to be an authentic message chain, and we are reviewing how an inadvertent number was added to the chain.”

Hours later on The Will Cain Show, the host called the report “incredibly concerning,” but ultimately managed to land on what he felt was a positive takeaway:

To another big story today, out of The Atlantic where editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg has reported that he was accidentally sent sensitive information about military strikes in Yemen. The messages come from 18 national security officials. They were sent through the encryption app, Signal. And there are indications that they appear to be authentic.

I think there are two takeaways from this story as what we know today. One, it is incredibly concerning that sensitive information would be sent with a journalist included in the thread. We can speculate, and there is reasonable, fair expectation that somebody like Jeffrey Goldberg was accidentally included under his initials, J.G., when who was meant to be included, was the trade chief Jamieson Greer. But if it was accidental – and we’ll wait to see if this was accidental – it is incredibly concerning that this information would be shared over the Signal app with a journalist included.

But the bigger takeaway for me is it’s an insight, a transparent insight into the thought process and dialogue of our national leaders. If you look at the actual content of what was reported, if you look how they discuss potential strikes on Houthis in Yemen, what you will see is dialogue between Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, Stephen Miller, Tulsi Gabbard, and many more in a very collaborative, open, honest, team-based attempt to come to the right decision. After years of secrecy and incompetence, if you read the content of these messages, I think you’ll come away proud that these are the leaders making these decisions in America.
