Fusion’s Jorge Ramos Grills Rahm Emanuel Over Obama’s Broken Promises, Damaged Credibility
Fusion anchor Jorge Ramos challenged Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Wednesday to defend the bumpy health care rollout and the promises President Obama made but never followed through on. And the interview garnered Ramos a fan you might not have expected…
Ramos pushed Emanuel, who previously served as White House Chief of Staff during Obama’s first time, on why millions of people are losing their health insurance. Emanuel defended the overall goals of the health care law, but Ramos wondered if between this and the president seemingly unaware of NSA spying on foreign leaders if this represents a credibility problem for the White House.
Emanuel also defended himself from accusations that he brushed immigration reform out of Obama’s first-year agenda, arguing he already had a lot on his plate and despite some of his promises never going anywhere, “he always followed through.” When Ramos brought up the broken promise to close Gitmo, Emanuel blamed Republican obstructionists in Congress.
The combative interview earned Ramos some words of praise from Matt Drudge, who went so far as to call Ramos “the last journalist standing.”
