George Conway Fumes If the GOP Had Any ‘Shame’ Ronna McDaniel Would ‘Be Out On Her Ass’
MSNBC’s Chris Hayes spoke to conservative lawyer George Conway, a former Republican operative, about the recent revelation that then President Donald Trump and RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel called two Republican members of the Wayne County Board of Canvassers to pressure them not to certify election results in 2020.
“There’s a few things striking about it to me. One is that I don’t know where they get the tape from. Now we’ve got the tape. But also, just like it’s so wild how in the weeds the guy was. I mean, that’s the president of the United States,” Hayes began, adding:
Like, you know this because you have worked you’ve worked in politics and you’ve been around the various layers that go around principals, as they’re often called. Right. Who they talk to on the phone, what’s a staff job? What’s the principal’s job like? The president on the phone with the wing canvassers. It’s just like there’s nothing he won’t do. There’s no there’s no links he won’t go to to get this done.
“Yeah, I mean, he’s a complete nut job, and it’s just like what he did in Georgia. Remember? He didn’t just call Secretary of State Raffensperger. He called an investigator, a lowly investigator in the Georgia department of whatever,” Conway replied, adding:
I don’t even know what it is. And just to to to to jawbone that poor woman she’s getting talking to the president of the United States, this nut job. And so, you know, it’s just crazy. It just shows you what a lunatic he is and how extreme he is and how corrupt he is, because this is just he’s basically on the basis of lies, on the basis of no facts. He’s urging a public official to basically violate their oath to to the law of the state of Michigan and to the Constitution. It’s crazy and corrupt.
And I got to say this about my former political party. You know, I mean, Ronna Romney, Romney McDaniel, the woman who changed her name. So that wouldn’t displease Donald Trump. I mean, I mean, this is just the sleaziest thing ever. Whether or not it’s criminal will set that aside. It’s just the sleaziest thing ever. And if my former political party had any decency or or shame, she’d be out on her ass. Forgive my language.
“Yeah, it is. I do find it actually quite revealing,” Hayes replied.
“It’s incredible,” Conway added.
“And shocking that she’s that she’s on the call and she’s saying, well, we’ll pay for your lawyers as well,” Hayes continued, adding:
There’s also an interesting angle to this, Lisa, which is we have seen and I think this is a sort of a little bit of a Fani Willis effect, which is, you know, all eyes were on the Justice Department from the beginning of this. But it’s pretty clear that there are all sorts of colorable claims in a bunch of jurisdictions that state law was violated. And now we’ve seen cases brought against, you know, the sort of fake electors in Michigan. There’s a case now in Nevada. There’s maybe one coming in. In Arizona. There is the one in Georgia that names that there there were alongside with the federal case. And the Fani Willis as case. There were many state laws that plausibly were broken in pursuit of this scheme.
