George Will Explains Why He Left the GOP: ‘I’m a Conservative’

Conservative writer George Will declared days ago that he’s leaving the GOP over Donald Trump, and he explained why in more detail on Fox News Sunday this morning.

“I left it for the same reason I joined it in 1964,” he said. “I joined it because I’m a conservative. I leave it for the same reason, that I’m a conservative.”

Will explained that the final straw for him was when, right after Trump attacked a Hispanic judge on the basis of his ethnicity, Paul Ryan endorsed him. And that was after Will’s concerns about Ryan touting “common principles” with Trump.

He said, “I decided that, in fact, this is not my party anymore.”

Trump, naturally, responded on Twitter today:

George Will, one of the most overrated political pundits (who lost his way long ago), has left the Republican Party.He's made many bad calls
