Geraldo to O’Reilly: LeBron Went for ‘Low-Hanging Fruit’ with Eric Garner Shirt

Geraldo Rivera continued tonight to defend telling LeBron James to wear a “Be a Better Father” shirt instead of a “I Can’t Breathe” one. Rivera explained his position earlier today by saying the real problem is with black families, but he elaborated with Bill O’Reilly about wearing a shirt in support of Garner protesters.

Rivera made it clear he’s not against protesting police militarization and favors making cops tase first, but at the same time, he argued that James has a platform to bring attention to the “dysfunction and disintegration of the urban family” and he chooses not to talk about it.

He repeatedly said supporting Garner is the easy way out and that James has “gone for the low-hanging fruit.” “With your fame and your celebrity,” Rivera said, “and the fact that you are beloved, can’t you have an effect on this bigger issue?”
