GOP Sen. Cassidy Explains Trump: ‘Hyperbole is Interpreted by Some as Lies’

Sen. Bill Cassidy appeared on Morning Joe Thursday, and was asked a particularly pointed question by co-host Mika Brzezinski.

“Has this president ever lied?” Brzezinski asked.

“This president speaks in hyperbole,” Cassidy replied, borrowing a decades-old phrase from Donald Trump.

“And hyperbole is interpreted by some as lies, and by the president it’s interpreted as just his exaggeration: the most beautiful in the world! Well, what’s the most beautiful in the world? That’s in the eye of the beholder,” Cassidy said.

“So the president has a manner of speaking which is easily taken as a lie — and the president would refute that,” Cassidy continued, before noting that he tries not to get distracted by Trump’s comments.

Bizarrely, instead of pressing Cassidy on his apparent admission that the Republican president lies, Brzezinski chose to end the segment there.

Before throwing to a commercial break, she ironically declared: “That, was a profile in courage.”
