GOP Strategist on Wall Negotiations: Trump is ‘Weak, Isolated and Impotent’
On MSNBC on Monday, anchor Stephanie Ruhle spoke with New York Democrat Christine Quinn, and Republican strategist Evan Siegfried about wall funding, and whether there might be a compromise in the next three weeks. Ruhle began with the premise that President Donald Trump isn’t being much of a deal-maker, and Siegfried took it up several notches from there.
Ruhle said that in 18 days Trump will “be clowned” if a bipartisan group comes to him with a ready compromise, turning to Siegfried for comment.
“He’s been a clown since day one in the White House,” Siegfried began.
“Okay but that’s irrelevant,” said Ruhle.
“I think that you’re seeing, he’s always going out and playing toward his base, and it’s what his base cares about. He’s never tried to govern toward the middle or even to try to win over some Democrats,” he said. “I don’t know where he comes down on this. He’s saying we’re going to do it, we’re going to do border security and we got to have a wall in order to have a country, and I don’t think that works.”
“I think that the president is going to be there and he’s going to really hold this committee’s feet to the fire,” Siegfried continued. He said that Trump and some of his surrogates have been trying to spin the continuing resolution as the result of Trump “winning” the argument, adding that they are “off in lala-land” if they believe it.
“The bottom line is this president is weak, he is isolated, and he is impotent,” said Siegfried. “And now he’s becoming even more dangerous because he’s a cornered animal.”
The three expressed their hope that there would be a compromise before another shutdown. Watch the clip above, courtesy of MSNBC.
