High Praise: Tommy Chong Endorses Sanders, Says ‘Bernie Is Donald Trump With Brains’
Today, Tommy Chong appeared on CNN to tell Brooke Baldwin all about why he likes Bernie Sanders and is supporting his presidential bid.
He debuted a pro-Sanders commercial that has now usurped “Audit the Ted” as the best political spot of the year, in this reporter’s humble opinion. “Which one of these plants are ready for harvest?” he asks as the camera pans over some vegetation that is very illegal in most of the states that said “plant” would be presiding over. “Some are obviously too immature… and yet, others are done, finished! There’s nothing left in them!”
Then, some new greenery appears on screen. Still very illegal, this one is adorned with roses. “There’s one candidate … who is totally ready to be the Commander in Chief, or Commander in Kush, as I like to say,” enthuses Chong’s breathless voiceover.
Following the ad, Chong appeared remotely on-screen to explain his views to Baldwin in more depth.
“Bernie, obviously, is the most qualified of both parties,” Chong said, insisting that Sanders is “at the age where the only thing that matters is the people.”
Beyond that, here are some more of Chong’s reasons for feeling the Bern:

- He’s got heart
- He’s got brains
He’s the Wizard of Oz- He will improve on Obamacare
- He is “like an accountant” in that he wants to “take care of the books”
- He is “Donald Trump with brains”
- He is “Donald Trump with soul”
- He commands a big crowd
- He tells the truth
- He will legalize marijuana
Chong was quick to correct Baldwin when she suggested that Sanders’ stance on marijuana legalization was the main reason for his support, saying, “Not necessarily, not necessarily.” He was not interested in being pigeon-holed as a single-issue voter, although this single issue is important to other vocal Sanders supporters, too.
