House Republican Says He’s Rooting for AOC To Beat Chuck Schumer in Primary: ‘I’m Looking Forward to It’
Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) slammed Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and said he’s “looking forward to” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) defeating the senator in a primary.
Ocasio-Cortez has not publicly said whether she will challenge Schumer, who is up for reelection in 2028.
Schumer and Senate Democrats have forced votes on a slew of President Donald Trump’s nominees rather than allowing those nominees to be confirmed by unanimous consent. The move has slowed the Senate to a snail’s pace, and senators left Washington for the summer without a bipartisan deal to hasten Senate business.
In a social media post, Trump told Schumer and Senate Democrats to “GO TO HELL!”
Burchett appeared on Sunday’s Fox News Live, where host Kevin Corke said he is “frustrated” that more Trump nominees have not been confirmed.
“I am frustrated on behalf of the American people that Congress, the Senate, frankly, can’t seem to get its act together and get those nominees, because they’re doing the work for the American people,” Corke said. “We’re talking about real jobs, real policy positions that have to be meted out. What happened and why are they going on recess?”
Burchett replied that Americans “voted for Donald Trump’s agenda.”
“And every time we delay, slow down that fact, it’s very discouraging to the American public,” Burchett said before saying he wants Ocasio-Cortez to challenge and beat Schumer in the 2028 Democratic Senate primary in New York. “I’m looking forward to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez primarying him very soon and seeing him ran out of town because no one believes what he says. He’s holding it up for negotiations.”
Burchett went out to say that Americans are “tired of that garbage.”
