‘I May Be an Out-of-Touch New York City Liberal,’ But I Know DeSantis ‘Is Too Short To Be President,’ Says Chris Hayes

MSNBC host Chris Hayes argued on Friday that while he “may be an out of touch New York City liberal,” he has always believed that Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis is “too short to be president.”

During an interview with former Florida Rep. David Jolly, Hayes suggested that DeSantis “just doesn’t have the appeal” necessary to become president.

Jolly responded:

Yeah, look, some people are uniquely bad at retail politics. He is, we know that, maybe he has other strengths, but it’s that raw combination of arrogance and anger, and both are very powerful, right? I mean, if you consider his culture wars, within his culture wars is his personal ethos that he knows best how you should raise your kids and what your family should believe. His attacks on the migrant community is an attack on diversity. His attack on voting rights is an attack on empowering communities of color to exercise their franchise and participate in democracy. His attack on education and the LGBT community is an attack on the independence of parenting, that my wife and I would like to be in charge of our children.

At the end of the interview, Hayes remarked, “My first instinct on him as a national candidate was that I may be an out-of-touch New York City liberal, but I know my country and the man is too short to be president. I think that’s proven to be true.”

He concluded, “It’s true. It’s true. What are you gonna say?”

While DeSantis has claimed that his height is around 5’11”, others, including Mediaite’s Sarah Rumpf, have estimated DeSantis’ true height to be between 5’8″ and 5’9″.

“I’ve met him multiple times, dating back to before he was ever elected to office, and he certainly did not appear to be three inches taller than me,” Rumpf wrote in November. “I’m 5’8″, so I should have to look up to someone who is actually 5’11”.”
