‘I’m Not Gonna Get a Straight Answer!’ Pam Bondi Stonewalls Democratic Senator Over FBI’s $50,000 Tom Homan Sting
Attorney General Pam Bondi stonewalled Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) as he grilled her over reports President Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, accepted a $50,000 cash bribe on Tuesday – turning fire on the senator to accuse him of working with “dark money groups.”
According to an MSNBC report, Homan accepted a $50,000 cash payment from undercover FBI agents posing as business executives in exchange for promised government contracts. MSNBC said the exchange was caught on video, while The New York Times reported it was “recorded on audiotape.”
FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said the case “was subjected to a full review” and that investigators “found no credible evidence of any criminal wrongdoing.”
Whitehouse pressed Bondi over whether the FBI reacquired the money used in the alleged sting or whether Homan kept it during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Tuesday.
After Whitehouse first posed the question, Bondi replied bluntly: “Senator, I look at your facts.”
After a pause, Whitehouse repeated the question, and Bondi replied by citing Patel and Blanche’s statement that “no evidence” of wrongdoing was found after a full FBI review.
The pair continued:
SHELDON WHITEHOUSE: Are you saying that they did not deliver $50,000 in cash to Mr. Homan?
PAM BONDI: Senator, as recently stated, the investigation of Mr. Homan was subjected to a full review by FBI agents.
WHITEHOUSE: That’s a different question.
BONDI: – By the FBI agents, by Department of Justice prosecutors. They found no evidence of wrongdoing.
WHITEHOUSE: That’s a different question. What became of the $50,000? Did the FBI get it back?
BONDI: Mr. Whitehouse – excuse me, Senator Whitehouse, you’re welcome to talk to the FBI.
WHITEHOUSE: They report to you can’t you answer this question.
BONDI: Senator Whitehouse, you’re welcome to discuss this with Director Patel.
WHITEHOUSE: Did Homan keep the $50,000?
BONDI: As deputy attorney general Todd Blanche recently stated the investigation –
As the attorney general slowly repeated her response the senator lost patience and cut in: “Nevermind, nevermind!” He added that he could “see” that he was “not going to get a straight answer” to “a very simple question.”
Bondi returned fire on Whitehouse, accusing him of working with “dark money groups” while also pushing legislation that would have benefited his wife’s business.
BONDI: FBI agents and the DOJ, they found no credible evidence of wrongdoing. You know, you’re very concerned about money and people taking money and you rail against dark money.
WHITEHOUSE: Wait a second, wait a second.
BONDI: Yet, you work with dark money groups all the time. Senator Whitehouse.
WHITEHOUSE: Wait a second. Did you know whether or not in that investigation they looked at whether the 2024 $50,000 payment to Mr. Homan was declared by him on his tax returns.
BONDI: Senator, I would be more concerned if I were you, when you talk about corruption and money, that you pushed for legislation that would subsidize your wife’s company –
Cutting Bondi off, Whitehouse berated her for ducking “pretty specific” questions to raise what he called “completely irrelevant, far right internet talking points.”
Turning to Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA), he asked that a formal QFR be written to Patel in order to attain the answers to his questions:
“What happened to the $50,000? Did Homan keep it? Did the FBI get it back? If he kept it, did he put it on his tax returns? Pretty simple questions,” he concluded before moving on.
