Irony Alert! Donald Trump Is Asking His VP Picks to Release Their Tax Returns
Donald Trump‘s still refusing to release his tax returns, but if anyone wants to be his vice president, it seems they better be willing to release theirs.
MNSBC’s Katy Tur reported on Wednesday that Trump’s campaign is following “normal” procedures for vetting his potential running mates, and that includes requiring them to submit their returns as part of the process. A framework has reportedly been established to determine a VP match with Trump’s views, and there will apparently be no “litmus test” for specific issues.
As Tur noted, the requirement comes at an interesting time since Trump is still being dogged by his political opponents to release his own tax returns. The subject has caused Trump to shoot back at the media on multiple occasions, and he and his campaign surrogates have said they won’t be released until his supposed audit is concluded.
As Morning Consult noted, when Tur asked the campaign if that decision was “hypocritical,” they had this to say:
