Is Chris Cuomo Getting Groomed For Sawyer’s Seat?

This morning Jon Gosselin of Jon & Kate Plus 8, uh, “fame” appeared this morning in a much-talked about exclusive interview on ABC’s Good Morning America. But besides the news made, it’s also notable who conducted the interview – Chris Cuomo.

Will this bigger exposure up his odds to get the Diane Sawyer open seat?

Gosselin appeared for the first time in a sit-down TV interview, and described how he ‘despised’ his wife, Kate Gosselin. “I can’t sit on the sofa with that woman,” he said. (Kate, who never has a shortage of media exposure, will be on ABC soon as well – filling in as guest host on The View.)

But the decision to give Cuomo the high profile gig, over the main two anchors Sawyer and Robin Roberts may signal a push to eventually promote him to Sawyer’s seat. (Sawyer was named Charlie Gibson‘s replacement on World News last week.) He’s currently listed as a “co-anchor” already, and with the promotion ABC would be free to use his position to fill with a big name sure to get a splash.

Besides the entertainment “get,” Cuomo reports for ABC Primetime tonight and tomorrow – with the Gosselin interview the focus tonight and a show an investigation of juvenile jails tomorrow. He also recently reported from Hyannis Port after the death of Sen. Ted Kennedy.
