‘Is That Gonna Be Your Full Reply?’ Lawrence O’Donnell Asks Hakeem Jeffries About Response To Trump’s AI Video Showing Dem Leader in a Sombrero

MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell sought reaction from House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) on Monday night, shortly after President Donald Trump posted an AI-altered video of the Democrat.

The federal government is set to shut down this week unless seven Senate Democrats join all 53 Republican senators to overcome a procedural threshold to fund the government beyond that day. In March, Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) took heat from the Democratic base for helping Republicans pass a six-month spending bill in exchange for nothing. That legislation is now set to expire on Wednesday at 12:01 a.m. Schumer has said he wants any spending bill to include an extension of Covid-era healthcare premium subsidies, which are scheduled to expire at the end of the year.

Schumer and Jeffries met with Trump at the White House on Monday before emerging to address reporters. Hours later, Trump posted an altered video of the two men, with Jeffries wearing a sombrero and AI Schumer stating, “We have no voters left because of all of our woke, trans bullsh*t. Not even Black people want to vote for us anymore. Even Latinos hate us.”

Jeffries did not speak in the video. In response, the minority leader posted an authentic photo of Trump with deceased trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. The minority leader simply wrote, “This is real.”

O’Donnell noted Jeffries’ post and asked, “Is that gonna be your full reply to Donald Trump on the fake video he put out about you, caricaturing you in that video?”

“Yeah, Leader Schumer and I will have more to say about this issue,” Jeffries responded. “But again, this is all designed to be a malignant distraction from people who are determined to continue to rip healthcare away from the American people. And Democrats are resolved to stand up for it. They are lying about what we’re asking to do.”

Jeffries then ripped Republicans for baselessly claiming that Democrats want to use federal money to provide undocumented immigrants with healthcare.

“We will continue to defend the health care of everyday Americans,” the minority leader concluded.
