‘It’s Good TV’: Chris Hayes Marvels at Jeanine Pirro’s Most Unhinged Moments After Trump Appoints Her as U.S. Attorney
President Donald Trump appointed former Fox News host Jeanine Pirro as interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia on Thursday, making her at least the 20th ex-Fox pundit Trump tapped to serve in his administration.
Trump made the announcement hours after he withdrew the nomination of the wildly controversial Ed Martin.
Until Thursday, Pirro was a co-host of The Five. Before her Fox career, she served as a judge in Westchester County, New York, and later the county’s district attorney. Afterward, she mounted an unsuccessful U.S. Senate bid in 2006.
“Jeanine Pirro has been a wonderful addition to The Five over the last three years and a longtime beloved host across FOX News Media who contributed greatly to our success throughout her 14-year tenure,” Fox News said in a statement. “We wish her all the best in her new role in Washington.”
On MSNBC’s All In, host Chris Hayes aired a montage of some of Pirro’s wildest moments on Fox:
July 17, 2017: “If the devil called me and said he wanted to set up a meeting to give me opposition research on my opponent, I’d be on the first trolley to hell to get it!”
Dec. 5, 2020: “You, Mr. Barr, are so deep in the swamp, you can’t see beyond your fellow reptiles!”
Jan. 17, 2023: “As for those liberal Hollywood leftists in need of a lobotomy like Rosie O’Donnell, they are straight-up communists!”
Dec. 9, 2017: “There is a cleansing needed in our FBI and Department of Justice. It needs to be cleansed of individuals who should not just be fired, but who need to be taken out in handcuffs.”
Hayes marveled at the clips.
“There are a great many things you can say about Fox host Judge Jeanine Pirro, including now that she is the acting U.S. Attorney of the District of Columbia. Donald Trump elevated the latest Trump TV personality to a federal position after he was forced to pull the nomination of his first choice, far-right activist Ed Martin, who was so unqualified, he could not make it through a Republican-held Senate.”
The host welcomed The Bulwark’s Sam Stein and said, “I’m just gonna say this straight up. Game recognize game. The woman is a good talker, straight up. She’s very good at doing that.”
“That’s good TV,” Stein replied.
“It’s good TV,’ Hayes agreed.
Pirro hosted a weekend Fox News show called Justice with Judge Jeanine, which was canceled in 2022 after she became a key figure in a lawsuit brought against Fox by Dominion Voting Systems. The company alleged that the network made false claims about its voting machines in the 2020 election, helping rig the contest against Trump. Fox paid Dominion a $787.5 million settlement.
