Jeanine Pirro Blasts Super Bowl Halftime Performer ‘Kendall Lamar’ Despite His Having Won ‘All These Grammars’
Fox News legal analyst Jeanine Pirro did not hold back in her harsh criticism of Kendrick Lamar and perfectly illustrated why she doesn’t understand him by misidentifying him as “Kendall.”
Lamar headlined the halftime show of Sunday’s Super Bowl — entertaining the crowd with several of his biggest hits in a stunning, patriotic performance that was at once confusing to many viewers and an indictment of American mass culture, complete with Samuel L Jackson’s maestro turn as Uncle Tom Sam.
Unlike other Super Bowl headliners, however, Lamar’s hit songs do not have broad or cross-over appeal — which made his performance confusing to many but adored by his fans. Consider Pirro a part of the former group, as she did not hold back in her critique during Monday’s episode of The Five.
“I want to talk about the halftime show,” Pirro started. “Now, I got to tell you what a nightmare. I kept sitting there saying, you know, maybe I just don’t get this guy.”
“Then I find out there’s this subplot, there’s drama with Drake,” she continued. “And, you know, he can do a concert. This guy Kendall Lamar,” at which point Jessica Tarlov interjected “Kendrick,” correcting her co-host. “And he won all these grammars,” Pirro added, misspeaking about the Grammy awards of which Lamar has won multiple. The “grammars” misspeak appeared to elicit a loving chuckle from The Five panelists, who are clearly endeared to their veteran colleague.
“But, you know, we had Usher. We had The Weekend, we had Beyonce, and we had Rihanna. I mean, we had performers,” she added, concluding with, “I don’t know what the hell this guy was doing, but I did. I didn’t get it.”
Before anyone thinks this is in any way mocking Pirro, The Five is the top-rated cable news show precisely because she is sharing her truth about Kendrick Lamar’s performance in a manner that will surely resonate with maybe 99% of the four million viewers that regularly tune in to the Fox News opinion show. And I also suspect that Pirro would wear her misunderstanding of Lamar’s first name as a badge of pride.
