John Oliver Escalates Beef with Ecuadorean President
In today’s edition of “It’s Monday and Here’s a John Oliver clip: Part Two,” John Oliver discovered that he now has a full-on beef with the president of Ecuador.
Oliver spent last Sunday mocking President Rafael Correa for spending an inordinate amount of time on Twitter and YouTube calling out individual constituents who mocked him. In return, Correa spent an inordinate amount of time mocking the “oxymoron” Oliver. “He’s right,” Oliver admitted. “‘British comedian’ is an oxymoron. Much like ‘Jumbo shrimp,’ or ‘Ecuadorean president who prioritizes his time wisely.'”
While he refused to apologize to Correa, Oliver did apologize for mocking a clown Correa appeared with, learning that he had actually insulted a popular children’s television character named Tiko Tiko.According to the BBC, Tiko Tiko called Oliver “grotesque,” a description he quickly walked back: “When a clown calls you ‘grotesque,’ it hurts.”
