Jorge Ramos Confronts Obama for Flip-Flopping on Immigration Action
Jorge Ramos grilled President Obama tonight on immigration for flip-flopping on what he publicly said he could do regarding immigration reform. Ramos brought up past statements by Obama that he’s not a king or emperor and can’t singlehandedly bring about sweeping action on immigration.
Obama insisted, “The notion was that we could just stop deportations period, and we can’t do that.” Ramos brought up Obama’s huge immigration action and asked why if he now believe he has the authority to stop some deportations, he deported millions during his presidency.
The president told Ramos what he’s saying isn’t true, and got a little testy in telling Ramos that he’s suggesting simple answers to these problems. “When you present it in that way,” Obama said, “it does a disservice.”
He ended the exchange by asking Ramos if he’s going to “do a good job in… making sure that people understand what their opportunities are” as a result of the action he’s taking.
