Josh Earnest Mishears Question, Accidentally Implies the Obama Administration Lied
After apparently mishearing a question Monday, press secretary Josh Earnest said during a White House briefing that he couldn’t promise that Obama administration officials had never lied about the terms of the Iran deal.
Fox News’ Kevin Corke quizzed Earnest about a recent New York Times profile, in which national security advisor Ben Rhodes appeared to say that he and others in the White House intentionally misled reporters about the Iran deal. Earnest strongly denied that Rhodes had ever done anything of the sort.
“Can you state categorically that no senior official in this administration has ever lied publicly about any aspect of the Iran nuclear deal?” Corke then asked.
“No, Kevin,” Earnest responded.
After Earnest went on a long monologue of the benefits of the Iran deal, Corke circled back again for clarification. “I want to give another run at it, because I’m not sure if you misspoke,” he said, repeating his question.
Earnest didn’t seem to realize that he actually had misspoken and became visibly angry with Corke. “There is no evidence that ever occurred, and what I would encourage you and other critics of the deal to do is to look at the facts…” he shot back.
