Kamala Harris Reacts to Jussie Smollett Charges Being Dropped: ‘I’m Completely Confused’
Senator and 2020 presidential candidate Kamala Harris said today she’s “completely confused” about the charges against Jussie Smollett being dropped.
Blitzer asked Harris for her take as a former prosecutor. Harris told Wolf Blitzer she’s just confused:
“To be honest with you, Wolf, I’m completely confused. I don’t understand. I don’t know, I don’t know the underlying evidence. There’s a sealed document, obviously. I don’t know. I’m at a loss. I think we’re going to have to leave it up to the judgment of the prosecutor. I think we should leave it up to the judgment of the police chief and the mayor, of course, to give us some better sense of what’s going on. I don’t know.”
She added that there’s an increase in hate crimes in the U.S. that need to “be taken seriously.”
When news first came out about an alleged attack on Smollett, Harris put out a statement saying it was an “attempted modern day lynching.”
.@JussieSmollett is one of the kindest, most gentle human beings I know. I’m praying for his quick recovery.
This was an attempted modern day lynching. No one should have to fear for their life because of their sexuality or color of their skin. We must confront this hate.

After evidence came out indicating Smollett engaged in a hoax, Harris was asked about that tweet and said, “The facts are still unfolding.”
Harris put out this statement––saying “I’m sad, frustrated, and disappointed”––after Smollett was charged last month:
