60 Minutes Grills Kamala Harris About Her Gat: ‘What Kind Of Gun Do You Own — When And Why Did You Get It?’

Vice President Kamala Harris provided new details on her prior revelation that she is a gun owner in a wide-ranging interview with 60 Minutes’ Bill Whitaker.

During an interview with anchor Brian Taff of Philadelphia’s Action New last month, the vice president said she was a gun owner — before claiming that if someone were to break into her house “they’re getting shot.” Taff asked Harris to expound on her stance on firearms, given her surprising revelation during Tuesday’s debate against former President Donald Trump that she is a gun owner. Harris replied:

Well, like you said Brian, I am a gun owner, and Tim Walz, my running mate, is also a gun owner. We’re not taking anybody’s guns away. I support the Second Amendment and I support reasonable gun safety laws. Part of my approach to this is I was a career prosecutor for most of my career. I have personally prosecuted homicide cases. I have personally looked at autopsies. I have personally seen what assault weapons do to the human body.

Many notable Republicans were surprised by this revelation, like House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, who shared his deep skepticism in an interview with Maria Bartiromo.

“I don’t think anyone believes that Kamala Harris is a gun owner,” Comer said. “But if she is, she needs to tell the American people what type of gun she has.”

On Monday night Whitaker told the Vice President how her comment “recently surprised people” and pressed her, asking “What kind of gun do you own, and when and why did you get it?”

“I have a Glock, and I’ve had it for quite some time,” she replied. “And I mean, look. My background is in law enforcement. And so there you go.”

“Have you ever fired it?” Whittaker asked.

“Yes, of course, I have,” she replied, laughing. “At a shooting range? Yes.”
