Kellyanne Conway Brags That Trump’s SOTU Guests Never Leaked: ‘Great Sign of a Very Tight White House’
Kellyanne Conway appeared on Fox & Friends Friday, and made sure to boast about something she was particularly proud of this week: that the White House managed not to leak news of President Donald Trump’s State of the Union guests to the press.
“By the way, I wanted to say one thing about that speech,” Conway said at the end of her interview, which she delivered from a frosty West Virginia, where Republican lawmakers are on a retreat.
“Everybody is commenting how great the guests were. How incredibly, you know, moving and heroic and tragic and patriotic out guests were,” she said. “In addition, none of them ever leaked.”
“And I did want to make that point. Very small group involved in that. But none of them ever leaked,” she continued. “I think it’s a great sign of a very tight White House that’s working for the American people and for the president’s agenda and not their own egos.”
Of course, the Trump White House has been plagued by leaks like none other, with reports suggesting the culprits are at the very top. Under Reince Priebus’ reign, the West Wing was a virtual sieve, with everyone from Steve Bannon to Jared Kushner reportedly lobbing information to the press to advance their personal goals.
The ouster of Priebus and the arrival of retired Marine Corps general John Kelly has reportedly brought some discipline to the White House, but problems still remain. As Axios’s remarkably well-sourced Jonathan Swan put it recently: “People are not loyal to the president.”
“If you hustle hard enough you get information.”
