Kevin Smith Stuns Today Show With Positive Attitude After Heart Attack: ‘I’m a Wake and Baker!’

Kevin Smith appeared on NBC’s Today show just two months after surviving a massive heart attack that almost took his life.

“The heart attack was the best thing that ever happened to me,” Smith said, speaking about the heart attack he suffered in February known as a “widow-maker” for its severity. The filmmaker and comedian explained that the procedure to remove the 100 percent blockage in his left anterior descending artery made him feel “great.”

Smith spoke about his new diet and effort to lose weight in response to the heart attack, and added that he’s now an “ambassador” for Weight Watchers.

“This is the weight I was when I met my wife,” said Smith, who has lost 32 pounds thus far. “This is a good weight to be at. Last time I weighed this little, I scored big time.”

“You seem awesome, your spirit is like, intact, and then some,” Today host Savannah Guthrie exclaimed.

“I’m going to be honest with you kids, I’m a wake and baker, so I’m feeling fantastic,” Smith replied, as the Today studio broke out in laughter. “I’ve been up since 5 a.m. and I’m ready to embrace the day!”

“I can see that you are,” Guthrie said.
