Larry King’s Worst Ratings Ever, And More Reasons CNN Is Anxiously Awaiting Fall

For CNN, all this heat can’t leave soon enough. In the fall (probably October), Eliot Spitzer and Kathleen Parker takeover at 8pmET, and someone (probably Piers Morgan) takes over at 9pmET. Until then, their ratings continue to tank.

Here’s some details from August:

• After finishing his worst quarter ever, Larry King‘s August was his worst month ever (since October 1991) in total viewers. It was also his lowest in the A25-54 demographic since May 2000.

Rick’s List at 8pmET had it’s first full month, and was the lowest CNN 8pmET program since May 2007. Here’s more.

• As a whole, CNN tied for 4th with HLN in the total day demo, behind Fox News and MSNBC.

And it’s not just in prime time…

John King USA had its worst month ever in the demo, and the lowest ratings at 7pmET since August 2001.

Morning Joe edged American Morning in August in the demo, a rare win, and also won by a lot in total viewers. HLN’s Morning Express topped both networks by far.

The one positive here? Once the new prime time premieres CNN can look to this summer and say how much their ratings have improved. At least, we’d expect that to happen.
