Lindsay Graham: Obama Will Have An ‘In Your Face’ Second Term

Senator Lindsay Graham told CNN’s Candy Crowley Sunday that he believes President Obama‘s potential pick for Secretary of Defense, Chuck Hagel, is an “in your face” nomination and that Obama will have an “in your face” second term. “It’s an incredibly controversial choice,” Graham said.

Graham added that he liked Hagel, but believes he is “out of the mainstream of thinking” on most foreign policy issues. Graham pointed out that Hagel wanted to negotiate directly with Iran, instead of imposing sanctions and that he wanted to negotiate with Hamas, an organization labelled by the US as a terrorist group.

He was an distinguished soldier in Vietnam, Graham said, with two Purple Hearts, but would engender much “bipartisan concern” for his stances on foreign policy. “He has long severed his ties with the Republican Party,” Graham noted.

According to Graham, Obama’s second term will be marked by an unwillingness to backdown and a confrontational attitude.
