MAGA Economist Rails Against ‘Corrupted’ Jobs Numbers He Gleefully Touted Three Months Ago

Economist Steve Moore, a former adviser to President Donald Trump, said the government’s official jobs numbers have been “corrupted.” But he was singing a different tune when those figures were more favorable.

Last week, Trump fired the commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics after it released some underwhelming July jobs numbers. Moreover, the BLS released downward revisions of the employment figures from May and June, revealing that the economy added 258,000 fewer jobs than initially believed. The president accused the commissioner of having “faked the jobs numbers.”

Moore, who briefly advised the first Trump administration, appeared with the president in the Oval Office on Thursday, where he presented his own jobs data.

“So, I was telling the President that he did the right thing in calling for a new head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics because this shows that over the last two years of the Biden administration, the BLS overestimated job creation by 1.5 million jobs,” Moore alleged. “Mr. President, that’s a gigantic error.”

On Friday, Moore appeared on Fox News, where he slammed the BLS figures.

” I don’t know if she was being political or not,” Moore said of the fired BLS commissioner. “I never met the woman. But the data is so corrupted. It’s not trustworthy. It’s not accurate. We need accurate data. The most important snapshot we take of the economy every month is that jobs report.”

Moore was singing a different tune in May after the BLS printed an impressive April jobs report.

“I just want to put the headline on these: number one, a record number of Americans are working today,” Moore said on Fox Business. “Never before in American history have more Americans been working. That’s a great number.”
