Meghan McCain Dishes on Leaving the ‘Fox Echo Chamber’ For The View

On Thursday night, Meghan McCain appeared on The Late Show and talked about her new gig as co-host of The View.

McCain took over the conservative seat at the iconic daytime talkshow last fall, something she still “can’t believe,” and told Stephen Colbert is “so weird.”

“This show has been on for 21 years and I’m the 21st host,” McCain explained. “I’ve been on so many shows where people never watched and couldn’t figure out what channel it was on. And like, everyone knows what The View is and being the one conservative on The View has this sort of weird, like, lure to it.”

She told Colbert about the “intense” reactions she’s received since joining The View with some saying “I love you” while others say “I hate you and you’re ruining my show.”

“It’s an interesting seat to take over,” McCain said.

Colbert then asked McCain if she felt like a “lamb chop in a wolf den,” something she dismissed because she’s “really tough” and “not a snowflake.” He also asked if she felt “more conservative” since she has been around non-conservatives.

“Well I worked at Fox for years and when you’re in the Fox echo chamber and you’re surrounded by conservatives, you’re in this like very warm bubble and you’re like, ‘Oh, everyone feels this way,'” McCain responded. “And it’s not that I didn’t know liberals, but I didn’t know people were like quite as liberal as Joy Behar. And every morning, it’s like ‘Why are all Republicans racist Nazis?’ And I’m like, ‘Look, I haven’t had my latte yet and maybe we can talk about something else.'”

McCain clarified that Behar is “lovely” and that she really likes her.

“It’s a really interesting experience, especially in the Trump era,” McCain added.
