Mika Brzezinski Gifts Joe Scarborough a Bell to Ring ‘to Turn on Fox News’ for Her as Valentine’s Present

Valentine’s Day is a recognized commercial holiday for couples, so real-life couples and MSNBC Morning Joe co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski celebrated on the air as many couples do — with a questionable gift of many uses.

It was a bell! What was it meant for? Is it a haunted bell recovered from the wreck of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald, as Scarborough wondered? Even though it was a gift from Mika to Joe, Husband correctly assumed that while Wife is a good gift-giver, the gift is “usually for her.” Mika demonstrated:

Brzezinski: So I need mini melts. [RINGS BELL] I need crackers. [RINGS BELL] Get me some coffee. [RINGS BELL] Yeah!

Willie Geist: Is that how it is, Joe?

But in this case, this was a gift that both could use:

Scarborough: No, this is for me. Because she falls asleep fast and she goes, “I want some cheese and crackers.” And like, “Ugghhhhhh,” and she [RINGS BELL] hits that. I’ve gotta get up, and I’ve got to get cheese and– Or!

Brzezinski: I think it’s a great gift!

Scarborough: In the middle of the day, Willie, she’ll go, “Can you turn on Fox News?” And I go “No. I will not turn on–” [RINGS BELL] And she’ll go like that, and then I will have to turn on Fox News so she can watch.

Scarborough found yet another use for it, but it meant that someone would have to get a second bell, unless someone was going to be put in charge of bringing the bell back and forth from home to work:

Scarborough: How about if I do this? [former President] Donald Trump lost in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022, 2021, 2022, 2023. And last night.

Geist: Wow. That’s amazing. Can be used for emphasis, for affirmation, or for you to get the cheese and crackers at 8:30 at night.

Brzezinski: Exactly. Or if you say “when I was in Congress,” we could do that.

Scarborough: I don’t say that anymore more because I don’t want to hear about it.

Brzezinski: All right. I think it’s really useful. I think it’s a good, practical gift, a lot of meaning.

So, definitely a haunted bell. And if there’s anything good to be found on Valentine’s Day, it’s the giving and receiving of haunted gifts.
