Mike Bloomberg Pleads With Biden to Send Kids Back to Class: ‘Teachers Are Just Gonna Have to Suck It Up’

Michael Bloomberg said teachers need to “suck it up” and work with President Joe Biden’s efforts to get children back to school as soon as possible.

The former New York City mayor and ex-presidential candidate urged the country to start a return to normal business during an interview with MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle. At one point, Ruhle asked him for his thoughts on how Biden wants to re-open schools within his first 100 days, but is facing opposition from teachers unions due to their ongoing concerns regarding the coronavirus.

Bloomberg encouraged Biden to stand up to the unions, and he offered a dismissive response to teachers’ worries over the health risks.

“You have a lot of city and state and federal employees who run risks. That’s part of a job,” Bloomberg said. “You run risks to help America, to help your state, to help your city, to help your family. And there’s just no reason not to have the schools open.”

Bloomberg went on to pronounce virtual classrooms a “disgrace,” saying poorer children “had a bad education experience anyways,” now they have neither the resources nor the environment to facilitate virtual learning.

“It’s time for Joe Biden to stand up and say ‘the kids are the most important things,'” Bloomberg said. “And the teachers are just going to have to suck it up and stand up and provide an education. Otherwise, these kids have no chance whatsoever. It is a disaster what’s happening to them.”
