Morning Joe Has a Field Day With Trump’s ‘Really Strange’ Diatribe Declaring Republicans ‘Eat Their Young’

Morning Joe tried to make sense of former President Donald Trump’s odd declaration that Republicans “eat their young” by working against him.

On Saturday, Trump posted a video statement on Truth Social in which he blasted Senator Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, former Attorney General Bill Barr, and others in the GOP he denounced as “RINOs” (Republicans in name only).

“Remember, Republicans eat their young. They really do,” Trump said partway through the video. “They eat their young. Terrible statement. But it’s true.”

The video appears to be a spoken word version of a Truth post that Trump put out a week ago where he also said Republicans “eat their young.” Since Trump’s comments came as Republicans are trying to work through the chaos surrounding who will be the next House Speaker, Mika Brzezinski, and Joe Scarborough tried to make sense of all this on Monday.

“He’s said some really strange things,” Scarborough said about Trump’s latest remarks. He made this point by calling Trump “obsessed” with Barack Obama because of how many times Trump has railed against his predecessor recently.

“Maybe somebody should know he’s not running against Barack Obama,” Scarborough said. “Really, if he were a leader of a party instead of just a leader of a cult, this personality cult, he would be more concerned about what’s going on in the House of Representatives.”

As Scarborough accused Trump of not caring about Israel, Brzezinski brought the discussion back to the House Speaker chaos by paraphrasing Trump to say, “When they’re not eating their young, they continue to eat their own.”
