MSNBC Did Air The Obama ‘Redistribution’ Video That Mitchell Claims The Network Won’t
An hour ago, we reported that MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell said on-air that MSNBC and NBC News will not air the audio that broke on the Drudge Report yesterday, featuring then-State Senator Barack Obama saying he favors redistribution, because they have not yet independently authenticated whether the voice is truly that of President Obama.
During a segment with the Washington Post‘s Chris Cillizza and her MSNBC colleague Chuck Todd, Mitchell only mentioned the Loyola video but refused to show it due to the lack of independent authentication.
But as it turns out, MSNBC already did air the tape earlier this morning at 9:04 a.m. And who was the host?
None other than Chuck Todd, who sat quietly as Mitchell made the claim that MSNBC will not air the tape yet.
UPDATE: According to the Washington Post‘s Erik Wemple, and NBC spokesman released the following statement:
In any instance like this — regardless of the source or topic — NBC News Standards will issue guidance instructing broadcasts to not air content unless or until we can determine that it is authentic, unedited, and not taken out of context.
