NAACP Head on Mizzou Protests: Students Are Constrained by ‘Racial Animus’

naacp headNAACP President Cornell William Brooks appeared on CNN tonight to offer his support for the University of Missouri students protesting to make sure they are able to live in a safe learning environment.

Students protested because they believed their complaints about racism on campus weren’t being adequately heard by the university, and today the president resigned.

Brooks told Wolf Blitzer that the president didn’t demonstrate the sensitivity or care to students’ concerns that he should have, given how concerned they are about the racial climate all over the country and on campus.

He even made his point by saying the n-word shouldn’t be a requirement for college campuses.

Brooks lamented how students are too “afraid” to feel safe and said college should be a place where you can “expand your horizons” without being constrained by “racial animus.”
